Time & Location

03 Jun 2026, 04:30 – 18:45

London Museum Docklands, No 1, West India Quay, Hertsmere Rd, London E14 4AL, UK

About the event

The meeting will begin with the AGM, which is normally quite short.

This will be followed by the film ‘Waters of Time’, which was sponsored by the Port of London Authority for the 1951 Festival of Britain. Chris Ellmers will introduce this special showing of what he sees as the most significant of all the now historic films of London’s working river.

This remarkable documentary – directed by Basil Wright with the support of screenwriter Paul Dehn –  uses the ebb and flow of the tidal river to explore the relationship between past, present and places. As part of this, it brilliantly captures the shipping, engineering and human power of the early post-war port.

Meetings are held in the Jack Petchey Room on the lower ground floor of the museum. We gather from 4.30pm and talks start at 5pm. Please note that the museum closes to the general public…
