About the event
The film ‘Waters of Time’ was sponsored by the Port of London Authority for the 1951 Festival of Britain. Chris Ellmers will introduce this special showing of what he sees as the most significant of all the now historic films of London’s working river.
This remarkable documentary – directed by Basil Wright with the support of screenwriter Paul Dehn – uses the ebb and flow of the tidal river to explore the relationship between past, present and places. As part of this, it brilliantly captures the shipping, engineering and human power of the early post-war port.
Meetings are held in the Jack Petchey Room on the lower ground floor of the museum. We gather from 4.30pm and talks start at 5pm. Please note that the museum closes to the general public at that time so if you arrive after then please enter by the rear security/staff door in Hertsmere…
