About the event

Malcolm Batten will give us a talk entitled ‘Shipping on the Thames and the Port of London from the 1940s to the 1980s’.

Malcolm Batten will give us a talk entitled ‘Shipping on the Thames and the Port of London from the 1940s to the 1980s’. It is based his book of the same title that he wrote featuring his father's and his own photographs taken over this period of shipping on the Thames. Many of the photos are from the 1970s when the docks and shipping were in a state of transition as the London docks were closing down, new developments were taking place at Tilbury, and traditional shipping was being replaced by new Roll-on, Roll-off and container vessels. The area covered is from west of London to Tilbury/Gravesend. Malcolm will also be showing some of his own photos of the recent/current Thames scene to show the changes…
