About the event
A talk by Alan-Burkitt-Gray
In the 1850s a riverside works in East Greenwich began the revolution that allows us to talk to friends, family and others across the oceans. Alan Burkitt-Gray, a retired telecoms journalist, tells the story of how Enderby's Wharf and its neighbouring factory in Charlton dominated the subsea telecoms industry for 100 years, leading directly to the worldwide internet.
The meeting will be held in the Jack Petchey Room on the lower ground floor of the museum. Please note that the museum closes to the general public at that time so if you arrive after then please enter by the rear security/staff door in Hertsmere Road.
Entry to our talks is free to paid-up members of the T&DHG. Non-members are requested to donate £4.00.
